How to find the “funny” in the small things.
Laugh through the joys of aging.
Don’t Be Afraid
I have never minded telling people how old I am; just don’t ask me how much I weigh! In theory we are supposed to get wiser as we age. We have to love up ourselves the best we can, whether we are 18 or 80. Accept what we have and make the most of it.
My doctor once told me about one of his teachers that came back to the medical school each year to talk to the residents about the changes that were happening to him as he aged. On his 80th birthday he told his class that his speech could be wrapped up in just a few short words. “If we don’t keep moving we’ll be drooling.” Powerful words that impact me today.
Be Well Oiled
I think of my body as kind of a tin man these days that needs oiling. As long as I keep moving these creaky parts, I don’t need as much lubricant.
Flexibility seems important too and not just for our muscles. I mean I have to remain flexible in my thinking, open-minded to new concepts.
And most important
“Brenda Elsagher brought an energy to our Aging Celebration, which motivated and inspired all present to remember to laugh. No matter how bad or hard life can be, finding joy and laughter in something can bring about healing, resilience, understanding, acceptance and an ability to cope. I loved how Brenda engaged the entire audience! It was hilarious to watch all the men and women in the audience slapping their legs with laughter, and tipping their heads back for the hearty laugh we all love.” This is such an old-fashioned audience; many are afraid to be who they really are. Brenda showed everyone how easy it can be.”
